Africa-Press – Gambia. Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubacarr Ba Tambadou, is expected to testify today, Monday, September 15, 2025, before the National Assembly Select Committee probing the sale and disposal of assets belonging to ex-president Yahya Jammeh, Malagen has reported.
Kerr Fatou has not independently confirmed the reported scheduling of Mr. Tambadou’s appearance.
Tambadou, who served as justice minister from 2017 to 2020, played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Janneh Commission, which investigated Jammeh’s illicit wealth and recommended avenues for asset recovery. The commission’s findings were hailed by many Gambians as a cornerstone of the country’s democratic transition, exposing large-scale state looting under the former regime.
However, both Tambadou and the commission have come under renewed scrutiny in recent months after an investigative report by The Republic newspaper alleged irregularities in the disposal of Jammeh’s assets. The report fueled youth-led demonstrations in Banjul and other towns, pressing the government to release transaction records.
In response, lawmakers set up a select committee to examine the sales process. The panel has since questioned several government officials and financial managers involved in the management of the former president’s properties.
Tambadou’s testimony is widely expected to be a defining moment in the inquiry, as legislators are likely to question him on decisions surrounding the establishment of the Janneh Commission, the oversight role of his ministry, and the handling of asset sales in the years that followed.
