Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Democratic Party (NDP) has formally announced a political alliance with the Gambia Alliance for National Unity (GANU), led by Hon. Sheikh Tijan Hydara, as preparations intensify for the 2026 presidential election.
In an official statement, the NDP expressed pride in welcoming Hon. Hydara into what it described as its “growing political family.”
“In the build-up to the 2026 presidential election, Hon. Hydara has made the bold and strategic decision to join forces with the NDP in a united effort to bring an end to the NPP government,” the party declared.
The NDP, led by Kebba Madi Bojang, described the alliance as a significant development in The Gambia’s political landscape. The party also noted that Hydara, who supported President Adama Barrow in the 2021 presidential election, is now shifting allegiance, signaling a broader change in political momentum.
“Mr. Hydara’s alignment with us is a powerful signal of shifting tides and growing momentum behind the third force,” the statement continued.
The coalition aims to present itself as a credible alternative to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), emphasizing themes of unity, national progress, and political renewal.
“Together, we are building a coalition for real change and a movement rooted in unity, vision, and a shared commitment to national progress. 2026 is a must. The people are ready. The time is now,” the party concluded.
