Essa Faal Signals Possibility of Coalition

Africa-Press – Gambia. Essa Mbye Faal, leader of APP-Sobeyaa, has hinted at the possibility of a political coalition ahead of the next presidential election. Speaking to Gambians both at home and in the diaspora through a Facebook livestream and other online platforms, Faal said discussions were ongoing but declined to disclose specific details.

“I cannot talk about the configuration of that coalition, parties, individuals, or entities that would be involved, but one thing is clear: Gambians want to see a coalition, and I hope that there will be a coalition,” he stated.

At the same time, Faal argued that defeating President Adama Barrow does not necessarily require a coalition. He maintained that any credible opposition party, including his own, could unseat the incumbent due to widespread dissatisfaction with his administration.

“President Barrow has done a great disservice to Gambians,” Faal declared, adding that the country was “suffering and bleeding not from war but from corruption, neglect, and a government that has turned its back on its people.”

He painted a grim picture of daily life for many Gambians: mothers walking long distances to clinics without medicine, fathers struggling against rising prices and broken promises, and children sitting in overcrowded classrooms with inadequate resources.

“Mothers walk miles to clinics in the provinces that have no medicine, fathers work tirelessly only to find their earnings swallowed by rising prices and broken promises, and our children sit in overcrowded classrooms on broken chairs, if chairs exist at all,” he said.

Faal attributed these hardships not only to mismanagement but also to what he described as an “unpatriotic administration” that had abandoned its citizens. He accused the government of presiding over “unprecedented levels of corruption” and responding to public grievances with “indifference, arrogance, and the arrest of courageous youths who dare to ask questions.”

Concluding his address, Faal urged Gambians to take ownership of the country’s future. “To all of you watching, I say that your voice matters, your love for Gambia is a force that can bring change,” he said.
