Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has issued a stern warning to school principals across the country, cautioning them against imposing unauthorized levies on incoming Grade 10 students.
In a statement, the ministry reaffirmed that the “no levy policy” remains in effect and emphasized that parents and guardians must not be compelled to pay any form of levy in public schools.
“Principals should note that parents and guardians are free to purchase school uniforms or stationery from the school or from any shop or vendor of their choice,” the ministry stated. “They must only ensure that the uniform is in conformity with the one prescribed by the school. Any principal found in violation of this directive will be dealt with immediately.”
The ministry further urged members of School Management Committees (SMCs) to report any principal engaged in such unauthorized practices.
“This serves as a final and firm warning. The ministry will not hesitate to take swift and decisive action against any violation of these directives,” the statement concluded.
