Africa-Press – Gambia. Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda, leader of the newly formed Unite Movement for Change, has reaffirmed that the group’s primary mission is to restore integrity and accountability in The Gambia’s governance and political landscape.

“We will not talk about people, we will not talk about personalities. We will talk about problems and ideas,” Mayor Bensouda stated during the movement’s inaugural meeting.

He emphasized that the movement is founded on three core principles—integrity, transformation, and equality—values he described as long absent from Gambian politics and governance.

Addressing members of the movement, Mayor Bensouda acknowledged that their departure from the United Democratic Party (UDP) stemmed from differing visions, but he underscored the importance of maintaining respect for the party and its leadership.“We must always respect the party leader and the party members,” he said.

“We must always remember that we once shared good memories with our former colleagues,” he said, urging members to uphold mutual respect and civility in political discourse.

Describing the Unite Movement for Change as “the fourth revolution” in the country’s political evolution, Bensouda said the initiative aims to establish a government that truly represents the hopes and aspirations of the Gambian people.

“This movement belongs to all Gambians and together we will transform it into a formidable political party that represents the desires and aspirations of young people, old people, male and female, rural and urban Gambians, educated and uneducated Gambians,” Mayor Bensouda stated.

Bensouda summarized the movement’s vision succinctly: “The Unite Movement for Change is simple and sharp — we unite, we move, and we change our country.”

He concluded by urging members to uphold integrity, honesty, and truth, and to defend the enduring principles and values of their forebears.
