GAMTEL Warns against Unauthorized use of Poles

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Telecommunications Company Limited (GAMTEL) has raised serious concerns over the unauthorized use of its utility poles by certain cable television and hotspot internet providers operating without prior approval.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the national telecom operator reminded the general public, service providers, and all stakeholders that all poles and related telecommunications infrastructure across the country remain the exclusive property of GAMTEL.

“Any installation of cables, devices, or equipment on these poles without the company’s written authorization is strictly prohibited and constitutes an illegal act,” the statement emphasized.

GAMTEL warned that the illegal attachment of cables or devices to its poles poses significant safety risks, undermines the integrity of the national telecommunications network, and disrupts efficient service delivery to customers.

The company has therefore urged all entities currently engaged in such practices to cease immediately and to follow proper procedures to obtain official approval where necessary.

As part of its enforcement measures, GAMTEL has directed that all unauthorized cables and equipment be removed from its poles on or before October 31, 2025. The company warned that failure to comply will result in the immediate removal of the illegal installations by its technical team nationwide.
