Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has urged residents of Chamen Nianija to remain vigilant against individuals he described as “vultures” seeking political power for selfish reasons. The warning came during a meeting held at his Mankamang Kunda residence, where he also hosted delegations from the Upper River and Lower River Regions.
“These people, when Jammeh was ruling, they were afraid of him,” President Barrow said. “Somebody did the Jihad till it is fulfilled. Now they have come out and want to put aside those people to take over the country. These people are vultures.”
Drawing a vivid analogy, the president likened such individuals to scavengers who prey on weakness. “You know vultures, they only come close to meat when it is completely dead,” he said. “That is what is happening today. They know Jammeh is gone for good, and because Barrow rules with democracy instead of fear, they think they can remove him easily.”
President Barrow, however, cautioned that dislodging his government would not be simple. “To take over, you have to climb many trees,” he remarked, signaling his readiness to defend his administration’s record and mandate.
President Barrow also took aim at those he alleged fled the country during former President Yahya Jammeh’s regime but have since returned to seek leadership positions. He urged citizens not to support such individuals, warning that they would once again abandon the nation if entrusted with power.
Highlighting his administration’s development achievements, Barrow revealed that his government is currently extending electricity to 1,100 villages across the country, leaving only about 300 of The Gambia’s 1,800 villages without access to power.
“For 50 years, how many villages did they electrify?” he asked rhetorically, contrasting his government’s progress with that of previous administrations.
The president reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to national development, assuring citizens that their concerns and proposals were duly noted and would be incorporated into future government programs.
