Africa-Press – Gambia. The leader and secretary general of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Mama Kandeh, has announced that his party remains open to coalition and alliance discussions with all political parties in the country.

Speaking to journalists, Kandeh said the GDC is prepared to engage in dialogue with any political party—including the ruling National People’s Party (NPP)—to explore ways of advancing the country’s development.

“Our doors are open to discuss alliances and coalitions with all parties. It depends on what they bring to the table and whether it aligns with the GDC’s principles. But our doors are open to every Gambian and every political party. If President Barrow calls me, I will respond and hear what he has to say,” Kandeh stated.

However, the GDC leader made it clear that while the party is open to coalition talks, it has moved beyond the stage of defecting or merging into another political entity.

“I have passed the stage of cross-carpeting, and so has the GDC. The kind of work we have done with our supporters and for the Gambian people means we cannot dissolve into another party—especially not the NPP. That will never happen,” he emphasized.

Kandeh reiterated that the GDC values unity and mutual respect among all Gambians, regardless of political affiliation.

“The GDC’s doors are open to every political party in this country for discussions on alliances, not only the NPP. We do not see ourselves as better than any other party. The GDC is a Gambian-registered political party, and we believe in national unity—we do not look down on any Gambian,” he said.

In his remarks, Kandeh also criticized the continued presence of ECOMIG forces in The Gambia, questioning their necessity years after the transition of power.
