Africa-Press – Gambia. The West Coast Regional Football Association (WCRFA) has suspended the Brikama Sports Committee (BSC) summer Nawettan following alleged attacks on referees.
In a letter addressed to the Brikama Sports Committee, the WCRFA announced the immediate suspension of all football matches organized under the committee’s authority, effective until further notice.
“The WCRFA informs the Brikama Sports Committee of the immediate suspension of all football matches organized under its authority, effective today until further notice. This decision follows recent aspersions and derogatory remarks directed at West Coast Region Football Referees by the Public Relations Officer of your committee,” the letter stated.
The association has invited the executive members of the Brikama Sports Committee to a dialogue session aimed at resolving the matter.
Last week, Ebrima K.B. Sonko, the PRO of BSC, issued a public apology, expressing regret for his actions and assuring that similar incidents would be avoided in the future. Both the Brikama Sports Committee and the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia have expressed regret on his behalf.
