Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has praised the media for their pivotal role in the successful hosting of this year’s King’s Baton Relay, held across the country from October 13 to 18, 2025.

The six-day relay took the baton to key institutions, including the Office of the President, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Office of the British High Commissioner, before concluding with a handover ceremony at Lemon Creek Beach. The event also included a beach cleanup initiative, all of which received wide coverage by local media outlets.

In a statement, GNOC’s Commonwealth Sports Association expressed “heartfelt appreciation” to media organizations for their support and contribution. “Your involvement played a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of the relay, which brought together communities, athletes, and stakeholders in celebration of unity, sportsmanship, and the Commonwealth spirit,” the statement read.

The Committee highlighted that media coverage helped amplify the relay’s message nationwide, engaging citizens and showcasing the spirit of the event. “We deeply appreciate your dedication to promoting national and international sporting events,” GNOC added.

The King’s Baton Relay, part of the build-up to the Commonwealth Games, aims to inspire communities through sport and foster a sense of unity among participants. GNOC’s recognition underscores the essential role that the media plays in amplifying sports initiatives and celebrating Gambian achievements on the international stage.
