Africa-Press – Gambia. A four-day capacity-building training for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) organized by TANGO is currently underway at Farafenni General Hospital, North Bank Region (NBR).
The capacity-building on human rights advocacy is sponsored by the European Union and UNDP The Gambia under the Gambia Responsive and Accountable Democratic Transition (GREAT) Project. The training, which formed part of TANGO’s commitment to training for lobbying and advocacy for CSOs/CBOs, is meant to strengthen their capacity and increase their knowledge to carry out their mandates effectively.
Speaking at the start of the training program, Modou Lamin Mbye, Programme Officer, Networking and Fundraising at TANGO, underscored their commitment to strengthening the capacity of member organizations to respond to the development needs of the people.
Mbye says that lobbying and advocacy are crucial to meet emerging development needs and enhance all-inclusive participation, while noting that the civil society mandate goes beyond service delivery, as it extends to influencing policies, holding duty-bearers accountable, and ensuring that the voices of the people are heard.
However, he added that effective advocacy requires strategy, coordination, and skills.
Ebrima Kinteh, lead facilitator, said human rights advocacy and lobbying are essential in promoting inclusion and defending fundamental rights.
Alieu Ceesay, Programme Director of 4H Gambia in Farafenni, described the capacity building as organized by Non-Governmental Organization under the European Union and UNDP The Gambia on Responsive and Accountable Democratic Transition (GREAT) Project, would contribute immensely and strengthen the capacity and voice of civil society across the country.
