Talib Bensouda Confident UMC will Win 2026 Elections

Africa-Press – Gambia. Talib Ahmed Bensouda, leader of the Unite Movement for Change (UMC) and mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, has announced that his political movement is preparing to contest the 2026 presidential elections, expressing confidence in their chances of victory.

Speaking in an interview, Bensouda emphasized that the UMC is not a personality-driven initiative but a movement dedicated to transforming The Gambia’s political landscape.“We believe that we have time, and we believe that we will contest the 2026 elections, and we believe that we will win,” he stated.

Bensouda explained that the UMC’s approach is grounded in strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, and the gradual building of organic nationwide support. He stressed that the movement’s vision extends beyond any single election or individual ambition.

“People believe that we are forming UMC to contest the presidency because Talib wants to be president, and that is not it. We are building UMC for the future. A party that will change Gambian politics, but we believe that we have time, and we believe that we will contest the 2026 elections, and we believe that we will win,” he said.

According to Bensouda, the UMC is growing through grassroots mobilization and the enthusiasm of supporters who are spreading its message, rather than relying on traditional political structures. “We are working with strategy and data; we are thinking, and we are strategizing. We are looking at the gaps and the potential, and we are communicating the right way,” he explained.

Bensouda added that while his team remains focused on the 2026 elections, their broader mission is to build a lasting movement for national transformation.

“We believe that time is not an issue, but we are also not worried about whether it is this election or not, but at the end of the day it is not about Talib, it is about the country, it’s about a movement that will change the country. We believe in the history of the Gambia only movements can change the country,” he concluded.
