Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, has accused former Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC) Lead Counsel, Essa Faal, of politicizing his role at the commission from the very beginning.
Speaking in an interview with West Coast Radio, Dr. Ceesay alleged that Mr. Faal used his position at the TRRC to build a political profile rather than focusing on the core mandate of the commission.
“He was paid to do a job, and, in fact, he did not even complete it; he was in a rush to finish it to go do politics,” Dr. Ceesay said. “In fact, he was forcing them to finish the report so he could go and do his politics.”
Dr. Ceesay further claimed that he had observed Mr. Faal’s political intentions from the start of the TRRC hearings. “From the moment he was sitting on that chair, I knew this guy was politicizing his work; he was building himself, preparing for politics using that platform,” he asserted.
The minister, a political lecturer by profession, added that his assessment was based on his expertise in communication and behavioral analysis. “I’m a political analyst, and I studied body language and communications. He was building himself, preparing for politics using that platform, and it backfired because he got only 1%,” he said.
Essa Faal, now the leader of the All People’s Party (APP Sobeya), contested the 2021 presidential election. He appeared on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez yesterday, where he criticized the government for its handling of the TRRC recommendations, lack of accountability, and the continued presence of ECOMIG forces in The Gambia.
