Africa-Press – Gambia. The Judiciary of The Gambia, on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, held a swearing-in ceremony for seven newly appointed magistrates and the Master and Registrar of the High Court at the High Court Complex in Banjul.
Those sworn in included Mben Faal, who was appointed as Master and Registrar of the High Court, and Ebrima Jallow, Adama Njie, Binta Conteh, Rose Mendy, Alieu Darboe, and Siloru Sowe, all of whom were appointed as First-Class Magistrates.
Administering the oath, Honourable Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow said the appointments were made on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, expressing confidence that the new judicial officers would perform their duties in accordance with the law.
“The Judicial Service Commission has entrusted you with these responsibilities, confident that you will discharge your functions as required,” Chief Justice Jallow said.
He reminded the new appointees to uphold their oath of office, deliver justice without fear or favour, and ensure fairness and impartiality in the discharge of their duties.
“As you embark on your careers, you must always be guided by your oath of office — to deliver justice without fear or affection. You have a duty to be fair and impartial to all who come before you,” he said.
The Chief Justice also urged them to avoid unnecessary delays in handling cases and to be diligent and efficient in their work.
“There continues to be a great demand for quality justice delivered within a reasonable time,” he noted, adding that the new magistrates should be “part of the solution and response to that popular call.”
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Mben Faal, the newly appointed Master and Registrar of the High Court, expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for his leadership and the trust placed in them.
“We are truly humbled by this task. Today’s ceremony is not only a formal affirmation of our duties but also a call to renewed dedication, integrity, and service to justice,” she said.
Ms. Faal also extended appreciation to the Justices of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal for their presence and encouragement, as well as to the Judicial Secretary and administrative team for their support in organizing the event.
“As we assume our various roles, whether as First-Class Magistrates or Master and Registrar of the High Court, we do so with humility and commitment to uphold the rule of law, serve the public faithfully, and contribute meaningfully to strengthening our justice system,” she concluded.
