Africa-Press – Gambia. Hassan B. Jallow, Chief Justice of the Republic of The Gambia, has been appointed Vice Chair of the African Chief Justices Forum. The appointment was announced during the African Chief Justices’ International Commercial Arbitration Summit, held at Pepperdine University’s Château d’Hauteville in Switzerland.
The African Chief Justices Forum serves as a continental platform aimed at promoting judicial dialogue, cooperation, and reform across Africa.
In a statement, the Judiciary of The Gambia described Chief Justice Jallow’s appointment as a recognition of the country’s growing influence in advancing judicial integrity and innovation on the continent.
“The participation of The Gambia’s delegation reflects the judiciary’s ongoing commitment to global legal excellence, institutional development, and the peaceful resolution of commercial disputes,” the statement read.
It added that the appointment underscores the importance of equipping judicial leaders with the necessary tools and networks to address complex transnational legal issues.
“The Judiciary of The Gambia remains dedicated to fostering international partnerships and advancing justice systems that are responsive, transparent, and aligned with global standards,” the statement concluded.
The summit, held from 26 to 31 October 2025, brought together senior judicial leaders from across Africa to discuss ways to strengthen judicial cooperation, enhance dispute resolution mechanisms, and promote legal innovation. Chief Justice Jallow was accompanied by Hon. Justice Omar Cham of The Gambia’s High Court.
