Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has dismissed criticism of his administration’s performance, describing claims that his government has not delivered on development as “baseless.”

Speaking on Sunday at a National People’s Party (NPP) welcoming ceremony for new defectors in Bundung, President Barrow said that while people are entitled to their opinions, it is unfair to deny the government’s achievements over the past eight years.

“In the last eight years, you can say you don’t like Adama Barrow or you don’t like the NPP, but to say the NPP government is not working or that we are not practicing democracy—you are just saying what you like,” the president remarked.

Barrow emphasized that the NPP remains the party trusted by Gambians to lead the country’s development agenda.

“This is the party of The Gambia, and this is the party that Gambians have faith in to move the country forward. Anybody who joins this party is doing what the Gambian people want. I came to help the country and take it forward,” he said.

The president also reiterated his government’s commitment to nationwide development, urging citizens to focus on unity rather than protests and divisive rhetoric. “We will not rest day and night; we are working on the development of the country. All this noise and these protests have no benefit. What will benefit us as a country is unity and working together to move The Gambia forward,” he stated.

Barrow concluded by calling on NPP members to welcome defectors with open arms and collaborate for national progress. “Let us welcome them with open hands and work hand in glove to advance the country,” he said.
