Africa-Press – Gambia. The Yunus Emre Institute in The Gambia has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cultural cooperation and exchange between The Gambia and Turkey, with ongoing programs designed to strengthen ties through language, arts, and cuisine.

Mr. Talip Erdoğan, the Coordinator of the Turkish cultural institute, said the institute is expanding its activities to create greater understanding between the two nations, which have shared decades of friendship and mutual respect.

“The Yunus Emre Institute serves as a bridge between Turkey and The Gambia,” Mr. Erdoğan said. “Our goal is to help Gambians learn about the Turkish language, culture, and values, while also appreciating the unique heritage of The Gambia.”

He explained that Turkish culture, particularly its cuisine, holds strong potential to boost The Gambia’s growing tourism industry. Over 60 million people visit Turkey each year to experience our culinary offerings. By training Gambian chefs in Turkish dishes, we hope to enrich the country’s tourism sector,” he stated.

According to him, selected chefs from various hotels, including the President’s personal chef, will receive professional training from a Turkish culinary expert. The program aims to blend Turkish and Gambian recipes, creating new dining experiences for visitors.

Established in The Gambia just seven months ago, the Yunus Emre Institute has already launched initiatives to support local artists and cultural festivals. “We are working closely with Gambian creatives to promote their talents. They will have our full support,” Mr. Erdoğan assured.

He further disclosed that the institute will engage in educational and artistic projects targeting children, to nurture creativity and promote cultural understanding from an early age.

Mr. Erdoğan commended the staff and management of the Yunus Emre Institute in The Gambia for their dedication and achievements, emphasizing that their work continues to reflect the importance Turkey places on its partnership with The Gambia.
