Africa-Press – Gambia. Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, has urged residents of the Central River Region (CRR) to be cautious of opposition party claims that the development projects under President Barrow’s government are funded solely by taxpayers.
Addressing a “Meet the People Tour” event in Daru Mbayen, Minister Sabally alleged that past administrations under former Presidents Jawara and Jammeh collected taxes but failed to deliver essential services such as roads, electricity, and water. “Today, under President Barrow, the taxes you pay are directly contributing to the provision of roads, electricity, and water in your communities,” he said.
He criticized opposition parties for making promises that he said they cannot fulfill. “The opposition can only ask for your votes with promises of development, but if they lose, those promises are lost along with your votes,” Sabally added.
The minister also reminded villagers of the upcoming voter registration exercise by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), urging them to ensure that all eligible young people, including those who have turned 18, are registered to vote.
He specifically called on parents to register children born in The Gambia but living in Senegal, emphasizing the importance of their participation in future elections. “Do not be swayed by claims that your children are not Gambian. The local leaders—Alkalolu and Seyfolu—know best who is born here. Stand firm and ensure your children have voter cards,” Sabally said.
