Nyang Urges Citizens to End Barrow'S Tenure and Reform

Africa-Press – Gambia. Ebrima Nyang, the National Administrative Secretary of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has called on Gambians to take charge of the country’s political direction as the 2026 presidential elections approach. Speaking in an interview with Teledal TV, Nyang emphasized that citizens hold the ultimate power to determine whether the country advances or continues to face challenges.

“This is where the country is now, and Gambia is our Gambia. If it is to be good, it will be done by us; if it is supposed to be bad, that too is in our hands,” Nyang stated.

He argued that President Adama Barrow’s ten years in office have been marked by significant hardships across various sectors, adding that it is time for the nation to move forward.

“As concern Gambians let us know that it is time to bring about the needed change that will have an impact on the lives of Gambian people, and for that to happen, Barrow has already been given 10 years, and in these 10 years we have all seen how Gambians have suffered from all sectors, from all walks of life,” he said.

Nyang stressed that the responsibility for change rests with the electorate, noting that reform must go beyond leadership to address structural governance issues.

“If we want to put a stop to this, it is now in our hands to do what we all can to bring not only change to Barrow but to change the system that will be able to meet the aspirations and the needs of the Gambian people,” he added.

Looking ahead to 2026, Nyang expressed confidence that Gambians can achieve the change they desire if they approach the elections with determination and clarity of purpose.

“That is the stand we have as a party, and we believe that, if we go with that right mentality, we will have what we want, and that is the needed change in 2026, because for the NPP government it is enough and the torturing is enough; what they are subjecting the Gambian people to should come to an end in 2026, and I am very positive about that,” he said.
