Africa-Press – Gambia. Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), has called on opposition parties to shift their energy toward holding the Barrow administration accountable rather than engaging in internal disputes.
Speaking in an interview with Eye Africa TV on Friday, 14 November 2025, Mayor Bensouda stressed that the United Democratic Party (UDP) and other opposition groups share a common objective—bringing political change to The Gambia.
“Fighting within ourselves, what benefit does that have? Because none of us is in the government. So for us, we do not have interest in personal problems,” he said.
He underscored the need for constructive dialogue and strategic planning, noting that the key task ahead is ensuring that Gambians elect a government in 2026 that truly represents the national interest and addresses the country’s ongoing challenges.
Mayor Bensouda urged opposition parties to focus their efforts on scrutinizing the government’s performance, emphasizing that the current administration controls the nation’s finances, power, and resources.
“They are responsible for what is not going right. We should educate the public on the issues facing the country,” he stated.
The mayor also spoke about his personal commitment to public service, revealing that he had opportunities to align with the ruling party or pursue personal gain but declined. He reaffirmed that his political involvement is motivated by national development, not personal interest.
“For me, my focus is on President Adama Barrow,” he said. “He is the President and every decision he makes has an impact on our lives.”
