Mai Fatty Criticizes Sedia Jatta and Defends Barrow

Africa-Press – Gambia. Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), took aim at veteran politician Sedia Jatta on Saturday, challenging his characterization of President Adama Barrow’s development projects as politically motivated.

Speaking in Wuli East, Upper River Region, during the president’s constitutionally mandated “Meet with the People” tour, Fatty expressed disappointment with Jatta’s remarks. “An elder whose song is all about people’s rights goes around the world and says these roads and electricity are all politically motivated and not development,” Fatty said, calling the comments misleading.

Fatty praised the administration’s infrastructure initiatives, particularly electricity projects, which he said had transformed local livelihoods.“If you bring electricity, the whites call it a game changer. It changes everything,” he said, noting that hundreds of residents now benefit from employment opportunities linked to the project.

Emphasizing the broader importance of stability, Fatty said peace was essential for national progress. “Any country that wants development in the world must have certain things; first is peace,” he said, citing examples of resource-rich nations whose potential has been undermined by conflict.

Urging the people of Wuli to recognize the tangible benefits of Barrow’s initiatives, Fatty added, “I will ask Wuli people… how did that work change our livelihood? That’s what needs to be clear to the people,” he said.
