Jammeh Declares Intent to Return and Warns Critics

Africa-Press – Gambia. Former President Yahya Jammeh has issued a new audio message declaring his intention to return to The Gambia, warning his critics that “no one can stop” him. In the recording, Jammeh challenged authorities to arrest him if they wished, stating, “Arrest me and put me in jail. You think I’m afraid of going to court?” He further expressed confidence that he would reclaim a leadership role, adding, “By the grace of the almighty Allah, I am coming back, whether anybody likes it or not.”

Jammeh’s remarks appeared to be a direct rebuke to both government officials and individuals he believes have worked to block his return. He accused his detractors of seeking spiritual intervention to prevent him from re-entering Gambian politics, saying, “They even went to marabouts that I will not come back. Go to any marabouts; you have been going to marabouts in Benin, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and everywhere.” He underscored that his fate rests solely with divine will, asserting that “What will happen to me is what Allah has designated even before I was born, and nobody can change that.”

In the message, Jammeh also urged supporters to rally behind the APRC, promising renewed efforts aimed at improving the country’s welfare if he returns. He expressed gratitude to his loyalists for their continued commitment despite challenges: “I want to thank those who have been working very hard under very difficult circumstances and sometimes hostility.”

Jammeh concluded with a call for resilience and faith among his followers, stating, “The road to freedom can be very far, can be very short. But you will eventually, with trust in the almighty Allah, putting all our faith in the almighty Allah, we will reach the freedom destination.”
