Africa-Press – Gambia. The Access to Information Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, has launched community sensitisation sessions on the newly enacted Personal Data Protection and Privacy Act of 2025.
The initiative, supported by the West Africa Regional Digital Integration Programme (WARDIP), took place from October 22nd to 31st, 2025.
The sessions targeted a diverse audience, including Local Government Councillors, Chiefs, law enforcement officers, youth and women leaders. The outreach covered communities such as Brikama, Soma and Basse, among others.
The primary goal of the sensitisation sessions was to inform citizens about the Act’s provisions and their rights as well as the Act’s role in protecting personal data from misuse, theft and fraud.
The Information Commission and the Ministry expressed committment to the effective implementation of the Act, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed about data protection and privacy rights. The initiative aims to promote awareness and understanding of the new law among citizens.
