Minister Sabally Urges Kiang Residents to Stand Strong

Africa-Press – Gambia. Demba Sabally, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security, called on residents of Kiang to stand firm against intimidation during the upcoming supplementary voter registration, urging them not to allow anyone to question their Gambian citizenship.

“Refuse it because it is your right. You are not begging for recognition. You are equal with them as Gambians,” Mr. Sabally said on Monday during a “Meet the People” event bringing together representatives from the three Kiang communities.

Addressing local compound heads, the minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that all residents aged 18 and above obtain their voter registration cards. He also encouraged Gambian families living abroad, whether for marriage or cattle grazing, to return with their children to register to vote.

“Do not be threatened by anyone; it is your right,” he said. “When it is time for registration, every Alkalo and Seyfo should provide attestation for every Gambian to register, even if they do not have ID cards. I am not talking about non-Gambians.”

Mr. Sabally further advised villagers to seek attestations from local authorities if they lacked identification, stressing the importance of participating in the electoral process. He urged them to vote in support of President Adama Barrow, highlighting the development and peace brought to their communities under his administration.

The minister also expressed confidence in the people of Kiang, noting their strong support for President Barrow during the last by-election.
