Minister Samateh Accuses UDP of Verbal Attacks

Africa-Press – Gambia. Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, The Gambia’s minister of health, on Tuesday accused the opposition United Democratic Party of organizing supporters to verbally attack him during a visit to the United States last September, where he was attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking at a “Meet the People” tour stop in Kiang Kaiaf, Dr. Samateh said the incident was part of a broader pattern of hostility from the party. But he added that he found a measure of consolation this year, claiming that internal divisions within the UDP had led its supporters to turn on one another.

“They insulted each other like it was a competition,” he said, arguing that the party’s turmoil underscored the futility of provoking conflict. Those who seek trouble for others, he added, often end up facing similar consequences.

Dr. Samateh also criticized what he described as the exploitation of young people for political confrontation. “It is our children they sent to do such, while theirs are enjoying air conditioning in their homes, eating good food,” he said.
