Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) said that it had uncovered a series of fraudulent academic documents submitted by applicants in its 2025 recruitment exercise, raising concerns about the integrity of the hiring process.
Inspector Siman Lowe, the department’s public relations officer, said approximately 40 falsified West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results were intercepted. In addition, more than 100 applicants have been asked to submit their original certificates for verification.
“The Gambia Immigration Department strongly warns all prospective recruits that it will not, under any circumstances, accept the enlistment of individuals based on false declarations,” Inspector Lowe said.
Authorities said a Ghanaian national, a senior civil servant in the education sector, is assisting in the investigation after admitting involvement in the forgery scheme.
To ensure authenticity, the GID stated that it has established official channels to verify submitted results directly with schools and is coordinating with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). “Such practices undermine the fundamental principles guiding the GID’s ongoing reform efforts,” Inspector Lowe added.
The recruitment process remains ongoing, with the department assuring the public that only qualified and competent individuals will be enlisted.
