Africa-Press – Gambia. Hamat NK Bah, the Minister of Local Government, Lands, and Religious Affairs, appeared before the National Assembly’s special select committee on Tuesday to testify regarding the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh.
During his testimony, Mr. Bah, who previously served as Tourism Minister, denied ever purchasing any of Jammeh’s assets, including his cattle, and insisted that he had never authorized anyone to do so on his behalf.
“Never in my life, Never should I have Jammeh’s cattle even close to my cattle because he doesn’t pay Zakat,” he told the committee.
Mr. Bah emphasized his full cooperation with the investigation and underscored the importance of transparency in the disposal of Jammeh’s assets for public understanding.
He further noted that the government had allowed the committee to proceed without interference. “And I think that’s one of the reasons why this committee was set up and government accepted the setting of this committee,” he said.
He added, “We could have defeated it on the floor of the house because we have the majority and dump it in the garbage but for the greater good of this country for the issue of transparency, we felt this committee should happen and it should do the job and enlighten the Gambian people and put the facts before the people so that everybody can go to sleep and understand what happened.”
