Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow of The Gambia was awarded the Grand Prix MEDays 2025 on Wednesday at the opening of the MEDays Forum, a global policy gathering that this year convened in Tangier under the theme “Fractures and Polarization: Reinventing the Global Equation.”
Mr. Barrow, along with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia, was recognized for what organizers described as sustained efforts to promote peace, stability, and cooperation at home and across the African continent. The honor, presented at the forum’s 17th edition, is considered one of the event’s most prestigious distinctions.
The MEDays Forum brought together heads of state, senior government officials, policy experts, and business leaders to debate some of the world’s most pressing geopolitical and development challenges. This year’s discussions focused on navigating global polarization and reimagining partnerships to spur economic opportunity.
In a statement, the Gambian presidency said the award affirms Mr. Barrow’s commitment to dialogue as the cornerstone of sustainable development. Since taking office in 2017, he has emphasized political reform, infrastructure expansion, and outreach to regional partners—efforts that last year earned him the African Peace Promoter Prize.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Barrow underscored the need for collective action in addressing Africa’s security and development concerns and praised Morocco’s leadership in advancing South-South cooperation. He reiterated Banjul’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara and noted the significance of The Gambia’s consulate in Dakhla, opened in 2020, as a marker of the countries’ deepening ties.
The ceremony was attended by several senior Gambian officials, including First Lady Sarjo Mballow-Barrow, Foreign Minister Seringe Modou Njie, and Mod K. Ceesay, the president’s chief of staff.
For Morocco, the forum served as both a diplomatic stage and a platform to promote cross-regional collaboration. For Mr. Barrow, the organizers said, the award reflects a leadership style rooted in consensus-building—an approach they contend is increasingly vital in a fractured global landscape.
The Grand Prix MEDays, they added, is intended to honor figures whose work strengthens peace and stability across borders.
