DLEAG Arrests Students and Others in Drug Seizures

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia, announced a series of arrests this week involving suspected narcotics, including two 19-year-old students found with more than 600 parcels of what authorities believe to be cannabis sativa.

According to the agency, Seedy Jammeh and Mustapha Saho, both residents of Latri Kunda Sabiji, were taken into custody on Nov. 29 after officers discovered 651 parcels of suspected cannabis wrapped in white paper and packed into eight multicolored plastic bags.

On the same day, three young men from Banjul—20-year-old Ebrima Nyang, 18-year-old Gibriel Jarju, and 18-year-old Sadibou Kujabi—were arrested after officers recovered 11 wraps of suspected cannabis hidden in white paper inside a multicolored bag.

All five suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, the agency said.

In a separate operation that evening, officers arrested 42-year-old businessman Ebrima John Carayol of Banjul Perseverance after allegedly finding 34 wraps of suspected cocaine, each concealed in white paper and stored inside plastic tubes.

Two additional arrests followed. On Nov. 27, authorities detained 32-year-old Abdoulie Conteh of Kololi, a driver, after recovering two stones of suspected crack cocaine hidden in a yellow plastic bag. And on Nov. 30, officers arrested 46-year-old Nigerian businessman Chibueze Nanso Okafor, a resident of Brufut, who they said was carrying three pellets of suspected cocaine in a transparent plastic bag tucked inside the pocket of a suit jacket.

The agency also reported that a Bansang resident, Samba Suwareh, was found in possession of 273 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa on Nov. 30, concealed in white paper and stored inside an Armanti Mayonnaise plastic bucket. Suwareh is currently at large, prompting a manhunt, DLEAG said.

With the exception of Suwareh, all suspects are in custody as the agency continues its investigations.
