Gambia Judiciary Admits 74 New Lawyers to the Bar

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Judiciary of The Gambia on Monday admitted 74 new lawyers to the Bar, marking the institution’s fourteenth call to the bar ceremony and reinforcing the country’s growing legal community.

The ceremony, held on December 1, drew senior officials from the Office of the Attorney General and Justices of the Superior Court. The Director General of the Gambia Law School formally presented the candidates, completing their transition into the legal profession.

Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow delivered remarks underscoring the ethical duties and professional discipline expected of new entrants to the Bar. His message, the judiciary said, was echoed by Solicitor General Hussein Thomas, who spoke on behalf of the Attorney General and highlighted the importance of principled leadership in the administration of justice.

Justice Gibril B.O. Semega-Janneh, serving as guest speaker, emphasized integrity as the cornerstone of legal practice and reaffirmed the judiciary’s central role in safeguarding the rule of law.

The event concluded with the awarding of certificates and special honors. Mafoyem Tchinda Loveline received recognition as the year’s top student.

In a statement, the judiciary said the occasion celebrated the strength of the country’s justice system and the rising prominence of women in the legal field—a sign, it added, of a promising future for the profession.
