Senior UDP Members Urge Rejection of Barrow'S Third Term

Africa-Press – Gambia. Three senior figures in the United Democratic Party (UDP) have publicly called on Gambians to oppose President Adama Barrow’s pursuit of a third term, warning that extending his time in office could undermine the nation’s democratic institutions.

Yankuba Darboe, the UDP’s deputy administrative secretary for communications and media and chairman of the Brikama Area Council, was among the most vocal. “No to Barrow 3rd term! Gambia must be liberated from Adama Barrow 3rd term,” he said.

Landing B. Sanneh, a senior UDP member and chairman of the Mansakonko Area Council, also criticized the prospect of another term. “Gambia, please change President Barrow. He wants to seek for third term. That is not good for our country,” he said.

Sulayman Saho, organizing secretary of the UDP and National Assembly member for Central Badibou, framed the issue in the context of governance across Africa. “No president on earth should go more than ten years. This is a cardinal principle. Lack of term limits breeds corruption and chaos in Africa,” he said.

The UDP leaders stressed that term limits are essential to preventing corruption and ensuring accountable governance, urging citizens to uphold democratic norms as Barrow considers his political future.
