Africa-Press – Gambia. The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sport, Bakary Y. Badjie, on Saturday officially handed over the Gambian national flag to Team Gambia as they prepared to depart for Angola to compete in the ANOCA African Youth Games.
The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, brings together all 54 African National Olympic Committees to promote sports development and continental cooperation.
During the flag-handover ceremony at the Olympic House, Minister Badjie reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting sports development in The Gambia. He encouraged the athletes to serve as exemplary ambassadors for the country, compete with discipline, and aim for medal success.
“The government is fully committed to supporting sports development. I am extremely proud of the phenomenal successes in our sports, and I must acknowledge that all this is possible because of the dedication of our athletes and the support from the National Olympic Committee,” he said.
President of the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), Bai Dodou Jallow, praised the preparedness of the athletes, highlighting the committee’s efforts to ensure they are ready for the competition.
The first delegation of Team Gambia is scheduled to depart on Sunday, with the remaining contingent flying out on Monday. The ANOCA African Youth Games will run from December 10 to December 20 in Angola.
