Africa-Press – Gambia. The Unite Movement for Change, a newly formed political group positioning itself for the 2026 presidential election, is rapidly expanding its footprint and could become a significant player in the race, according to one of its most prominent members.
Hon. Yaya Menteng Sanyang, the National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, declared the movement a potential front-runner in a message posted this week on his Facebook page. He cited what he described as swift nationwide growth despite the organization’s brief, three-month existence.
“After just three months of existence, the Unite Movement for Change has already established itself as a front-runner,” Mr. Sanyang wrote, adding that he expects the group’s strength to be “undeniable” within a year.
Mr. Sanyang urged supporters to intensify mobilization efforts, arguing that the movement’s momentum depends on grassroots engagement. “I advise every supporter to intensify their efforts by actively mobilizing people and serving as a committed ambassador for the movement,” he said, calling for collective action to advance its political goals.
With the voter population projected to surpass one million, the 2026 presidential race is expected to be fiercely contested. The Unite Movement for Change is not yet a registered political party, but it has submitted documentation to the Independent Electoral Commission and has begun equipping regional coordinators with motorcycles to support outreach efforts.
The movement’s emergence has introduced a new dynamic into the political landscape, and analysts say its trajectory will be closely watched as the country edges closer to the election.
