Bundung Progresses in Water and Road Projects

Africa-Press – Gambia. Residents of Bundung are beginning to see relief from years of water shortages and poor road conditions as major infrastructure projects advance toward completion, according to National Assembly Member Sulayman Jammeh.

In an interview on Thursday with Senn FM Radio, Mr. Jammeh, who represents Bundung-Ka Kunda, credited what he described as direct intervention by President Adama Barrow for accelerating long-delayed improvements to the community’s water supply. “President Adama Barrow took it upon himself to address Bundung’s water problem, and we thank him for that pivotal push,” he said.

Mr. Jammeh also reported progress on the Bundung–Safideen–London Corner road, a busy corridor that has long suffered from congestion and poor conditions. Although the project is not fully completed or formally handed over, he said traffic is already flowing. “Vehicles are now operational, traffic is ongoing,” he noted, adding that the road remains “not 100 percent ready.”

The lawmaker said his longer-term goal is to ensure that every household within 75 meters of NAWEC’s distribution lines has access to running water, eliminating the need for residents to walk long distances. “My vision is that no one walks 150 to 200 meters for water. We’ve minimized that,” he said.

With the 2026 elections approaching, the collaboration between President Barrow and Mr. Jammeh is drawing attention in Bundung, where water scarcity has been a persistent political issue. Mr. Jammeh emphasized that local involvement, not only government action, has driven the recent progress. “We didn’t leave the water issue to the government alone. Community efforts made this happen,” he said.
