Africa-Press – Gambia. Hon. Sidia Jatta, a senior figure in the People’s Democratic Organisation for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS), has called on Gambians to move beyond lamentation and take action to change the country’s circumstances, stressing that citizens possess the power to effect meaningful change.
Addressing delegates at the party’s congress on Saturday, Jatta described the moment as critical not only for PDOIS but for the nation as a whole. He noted that while many people express frustration over the state of the country, such concerns should be matched with action.
“Everybody is crying about what is happening in the country, but you should not cry about something that you can do something about,” he said.
Jatta explained that people cry out of helplessness, but where solutions exist, problems should be confronted and resolved rather than mourned. He urged Gambians not to succumb to despair, emphasizing that challenges are meant to be addressed.
He reminded delegates that, as representatives of the people, they bear a significant responsibility to help shape the direction of the party and respond to the fundamental needs and aspirations of the population.
According to Jatta, the task before them is to mould PDOIS into a force capable of liberating the country from ignorance, injustice, and poverty.
“That is the responsibility you are carrying on your shoulders here,” he told the delegates. “From this congress back to our wards, constituencies, and regions, you must be messengers—carriers of what is deliberated and decided here.”
He concluded by urging delegates to transmit the resolutions and spirit of the congress to their communities, reinforcing the party’s commitment to national transformation.
