Africa-Press – Gambia. Dou Sanno, a presidential adviser and senior figure in the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), on Sunday, December 28, 2025, met with residents of Sittanunku in Foni Bintang Karanai, where he urged unity and collective effort toward community development.
During the engagement, Sanno held discussions with local leaders and residents on issues of development and social cohesion, calling on the people of Foni to work together for the progress of the region.
Addressing supporters, the NPP stalwart commended President Adama Barrow for what he described as ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in Foni, particularly road construction.
“We are all one in this country; we must work hard together,” Sanno said.
He referenced recent remarks by President Barrow on planned infrastructure projects in the area, noting that road construction remains a key priority for the government.
“President Barrow said a few days ago that he has projects, including roads, coming to Foni—roads that will be very important. He is already constructing roads in Foni, and he wants to expand them further,” Sanno said.
Sanno revealed that he had personally appealed to the president and relevant ministers to extend road infrastructure to border communities within the region.
“I personally appealed to President Barrow and to his minister to extend roads from the border areas—up to Kanilai and down to Kalagi, wherever the boundaries are—for the benefit of the people of Foni,” he said.
However, the presidential adviser also criticized what he described as individuals exploiting the community for personal gain, using a metaphor to underscore his concerns.
“There are people here who cannot even chew kola nuts, bitter kola, groundnut, or meat, yet they take all our meat and hand it over to wolves. That must stop,” he said.
Sanno emphasized the importance of unity, respect, and responsible leadership, noting that Foni is home to many educated and respected citizens capable of advancing the region’s development.
“The people of Foni are wise, educated, and respectful. They know what to do. With that respect, wherever they go in this country, they will be accepted,” he said.
He concluded by urging residents to remain mindful of their actions and to work collectively toward the development of their communities.
“We are all children of the same mother and father. Let us be careful about what we involve ourselves in,” he said.
