Upper Nuimi Praises Government for Hakalang Bus Service

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Chief of Upper Nuimi, also a two-time national champion farmer, has commended President Adama Barrow and his government for what he described as significant strides in agriculture, health, road infrastructure, education, and social services, which he said have markedly improved livelihoods in the district.

Chief Momodou Chatty made these remarks on Wednesday in an interview with VOICE, following the recent launch of the Hakalang bus service by the Minister of Transport, Ebrima Sillah. He noted that the new bus service would greatly ease transportation challenges faced by residents of Upper Nuimi.

The chief highlighted what he termed transformative developments under President Barrow’s administration, particularly in education, security, access to clean water, and social protection programmes. He cited initiatives such as cash transfer schemes, family strengthening support for vulnerable households, improved ambulance services, and enhanced marketing opportunities for farm produce.

Chief Chatty used the occasion to call on the people of Upper Nuimi to continue supporting President Barrow’s development agenda. He stated that the construction of the first-class Hakalang road and the expansion of electricity supply have had a positive impact on the socio-economic well-being of the community.

On security, the chief praised the Ministry of Interior, the Inspector General of Police, the Gambia Armed Forces, and the intelligence services for their proactive efforts in combating crime and maintaining peace and stability.

He further underscored the importance of community policing, noting that it has strengthened civil-military relations and empowered communities to promptly report suspected criminal activities to security authorities.

Speaking on agriculture, the champion farmer lauded the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, for the timely provision of farming inputs and what he described as an unprecedented groundnut season. He added that the introduction of cashless payments through the Wave platform has enhanced security and brought relief to farmers across the region.
