Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow on Saturday launched the “Success Women’s Enterprise Fund,” a D50 million revolving financial initiative aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment. The fund was established by the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and is managed by Salam Financial Services.
The launch took place at the NPP headquarters in Bundung and was attended by representatives of women’s groups from across the country. The fund will provide interest-free loans and business support to women, particularly those engaged in trading, farming, food processing, tailoring, and other small-scale enterprises.
Addressing the gathering, President Barrow described women as “the gallants of Gambian society” and emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader development strategy. He noted that while women’s individual businesses may be small, collectively they make a significant contribution to the national economy.
“Many women lack access to finance and support, not commitment or ideas,” Barrow said. He added that the fund reflects the NPP’s commitment to poverty reduction and national development by empowering women at the grassroots level.
The president said the initiative will offer beneficiaries interest-free loans, technical assistance, and opportunities to expand their businesses. He urged women to use the resources responsibly, support one another, and demonstrate the potential of Gambian women when given the right opportunities.
“The NPP remains committed to placing women at the centre of development. This fund is a practical step towards creating jobs and improving livelihoods,” Barrow said.
