GGC Disburses Billions Amid Groundnut Procurement Issues

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Groundnut Corporation of The Gambia (GGC) has reported significant progress in its groundnut procurement programme for the 2025–2026 farming season, despite ongoing logistical challenges affecting timely delivery of farm inputs.

During a National Assembly Agriculture Committee review on Tuesday, a follow-up audit revealed that over D1.2 billion had been disbursed and more than 37,000 metric tonnes of groundnuts collected nationwide.

However, challenges persist in transportation, storage, and the timely payment of commissions to sector managers.

Officials cited ageing equipment and limited transport resources, while the audit confirmed that over D300 million was paid to private contractors for logistics support.

Committee members called for increased investment in depot infrastructure, transportation systems, and alternative options such as river transport to improve efficiency and safeguard farmers’ produce.
