Africa-Press – Gambia. The race for promotion in the Women’s Second Division League intensified following an action-packed match day marked by narrow victories and standout individual performances, as teams approach the final week of the first round of the season.

League leaders Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) maintained their position at the top of the standings after securing a 1-0 victory over Darboes at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium. Isatou Bajo scored early in the match to hand the “Khaki Girls” a crucial win.

In another closely contested encounter played at Brusubi, Prisons returned to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph against Sallahs. Isatou Camara’s second-minute strike proved decisive, ending the side’s two-game winless run and keeping them within reach of the league leaders.

At Old Yundum, Kintehs claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Lower Niumi thanks to a long-range free-kick by Marie Senghore, highlighting the impact of set-piece situations during the match day.

Future Bi defeated Rakie’s 2-1 at Basori. Fatoumatta Manneh opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Sainabou Jobe added a second-half goal. Rakie’s pulled one back through Muminatou Barry, who converted a long-range free-kick in the 62nd minute.

Meanwhile, Jung Mama secured a 1-0 win over Jeshwang United in Soma, with Kaddijatou Bah scoring the decisive goal. The result marked Jung Mama’s fourth win in five matches, strengthening their position among the league’s top contenders.

The league action continues at Brusubi where City Girls are scheduled to face Mansawally in a match expected to influence the mid-table standings.

With Week 11 set to conclude the first half of the season, competition for promotion remains closely contested, reflecting growing competitiveness and development within Gambian women’s football.
