Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant General, has announced that From Monday, 16 February 2026, ID card issuing centers in Kanifing and Banjul will no longer accept cash payments for the processing of national ID cards, residential permits, and non-Gambian ID cards, the government has announced.

The announcement was made by Gambia Immigration Department (GID), in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant General.

In a press release, the department urged applicants to make payments at any commercial bank, excluding Trust Bank, BSIC Bank, and Eco Bank which will not be part of the process. Applicants are required to present the original bank receipt along with a photocopy at the Kanifing or Banjul centers for interviews or enrolment.

The GID further clarified that applicants for residential permits must first report to either Kanifing or Banjul for document approval before proceeding to the bank for payment. “New applicants for residential permits must first report to either the Kanifing or Banjul center for approval before proceeding to the bank for payment,” the statement noted.

All other issuing centers across the country—including Bundung, Sibanor, Kaur, Abuko, Soma, Janjanbureh, Brusubi, Barra, Basse, Brikama, Kerewan, Fatoto, Gunjur, and Farafenni—will continue to accept cash payments until further notice as the digitalization process is gradually being rolled out
