Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Assembly Member for Nianija, Hon. Amadou Camara, on Wednesday warned of the risks associated with criticizing President Adama Barrow in his constituency, citing strong local support for the government’s development initiatives.
Speaking during an adjournment debate at the National Assembly, Hon. Camara highlighted the progress witnessed in Nianija under President Barrow’s leadership. “If you go to any bantaba (meeting place) in Nianija and tell people President Barrow’s presidency is nothing, if you are not careful, you will not leave Nianija alive,” he said, stressing the loyalty and gratitude of the constituents.
The lawmaker credited the government with transforming Nianija, pointing to newly built roads, expanded electricity coverage, and on-going health and education projects across communities including Chamin, Palele, Buduk, Siju-Alsan, and Mbayen-Burama. He noted that these improvements marked a significant change from conditions prior to 2017, when parts of the constituency lacked basic infrastructure.
Hon. Camara also called on the government to address remaining gaps in road access and forest pathways, particularly in swampy agricultural areas, stressing the need for continued development to support local livelihoods.
He concluded by urging all political actors to uphold peace during the election year, noting that government efforts have been widely appreciated and that the electorate remains engaged and vigilant.
