Africa-Press – Gambia. Sergeant Alieu Faye and Inspector Abdoulie Bojang, police prosecutors last Friday withdrew up to 25 cases from the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court due to failure to produce accused and witnesses before the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Penda Sowe.

According to the Magistrate, the cases were filed in 2020 but the police prosecutors’ failure to present the accused and witnesses compelled her to either strike out the cases from the court case files or order the police prosecutors to withdraw the cases because there was no progress made by the police prosecutors.

However, Sergeant 5258 Alieu Faye a police prosecutor invoked section 68(1) of the Criminal Procedure Court and pleaded for the withdrawal of the case of Ebrima Jallow versus SulaymanJallow, Sidou Jallow versus Abdoulie, Dawda Badjie, Ebrima Colley, Ebou Sowe, Omar Ceesay, SaikaTouray, Sherriffoe Singateh, Sherriffoe Dumbuya, Ousman Sowe, Abubacarr Jallow, Muhammed Barry, Ebrima Bah, Sherriffoe Dumbuya, Ousman Sowe, Abubacarr Jallow, Ali Ceesay, Ousman Touray, Serah Colley and Babucarr Bah.

He said they should put their houses in order before they file such cases. Inspector Abdoulie Bojang a police prosecutor also cited section 68 of the Criminal Procedure Court and pleaded to the court for the withdrawal of the case of Abdoulie Bojang, Ebrima Bojang, Ida Touray Sherrifoe Singateh, Pa Beyai Trawally, Malang Konateh, Ebrima Jah, Adama Camara, Cherno Momodou Barry, Samba Baldeh, Karamo Dahaba.

He said the police officers had made their efforts to bring accused persons and witnesses before the court but their efforts were futile. He added that, if the Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force is still interested in these cases, such will be filed again.

Meanwhile, Inspector Abdoulie Bojang, a police prosecutor, pleaded for an adjournment of the case of Kebba F. Darboe versus ten others, involving the allegation of the police officers in a land dispute. At this juncture, the presiding magistrate granted his plea and adjourned the case to the 1st of December 2022.
