Africa-Press – Gambia. The Kiang West District football tournament officially kicked off with an exciting encounter between Nioro Jattaba and Kuli-Kunda.
Nioro Jattaba secured a narrow 2-1 victory in a closely contested game that showcased the skill and determination of both sides.
The opening match drew notable dignitaries, including Hon. Lamin Ceesay, National Assembly Member for Kiang West, whose presence underscored the community’s strong support for the event.
In his remarks, Hon. Ceesay congratulated both teams for their performance and urged the young players to emulate successful footballers from the region such as Yankuba Minteh. He also emphasized the importance of peace throughout the tournament, calling on players, officials, and fans to maintain discipline and sportsmanship.
Lamin Njie, a member of the organizing committee, hailed the opening match as a great start and reiterated the call for peace. “We thrive on the peaceful start to the tournament, and we urge all teams to continue in this spirit,” he said.
