Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>By Mama A. Touray United Democratic Party has announced that the party will put up candidates to contest in the country\u2019s 53 constituencies for the upcoming April National Assembly elections.<\/p>\n

The party\u2019s leader Lawyer Ousainou Darboe made the announcement during a news conference held at the party\u2019s bureau in Pipeline while the party insisted and highlighted on election irregularities committed by President Adama Barrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to contest for the 53 constituencies, that is our plan and why shouldn\u2019t we contest for all the constituencies, the United Democratic Party will participate in any election and that includes the National Assembly election that is underway,\u201d he told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will be participating in the forthcoming National Assembly elections to be held earlier this year and we have seen some places where a presidential candidate loses. But when it comes to the National Assembly elections their parties are either on the same record or have power in the National Assembly,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the parliament house is at one side the country will not be developed as it should be that is why we will continue with our politics and we will continue to put our candidates for the forthcoming National Assembly elections to see that the parliament with strong voice is established. The National Assembly is very important, it is place where laws for the people are decide so we will take our candidates who will have the house to be elected,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

However, he said there will be no alliance between United Democratic Party and Gambia For All party in the upcoming parliamentary elections, adding that \u201cif anything is to happen again it can be a matter of discussions but we do not have any coalition as the endorsement was only for the presidential election and that is gone. \u201c<\/p>\n
