Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>\u201cSince its establishment in 2017, the National Human Rights Commission has been fully functional to promote and protect human rights in the country, and to make sure that we observe human rights standards,\u201d President Barrow said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Commission also networks with other human rights bodies and institutions to strengthen partnerships. As a government, we remain resolved to respect the independence of this important Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat aside, I am proud to state that The Gambia is in full compliance with its reporting obligations, and will continue to fulfil its international reporting commitments.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn respect of such obligations, as expressed in the National Development Plan, we achieved nearly seventy percent (70%) of our reporting target from 2018 to 2021, by submitting reports on various human rights issues to international treaty bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Gambian leader thanked the international community for attending the Donors\u2019 conference, which was held on the second of February at the Ocean Bay Hotel with the aim of mobilising funds and resources that would support the realisation of the NHRC 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, and called upon them to support this noble initiative.<\/p>\n
