Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>UDP SK West NAM rescinds decision, says he will now seek re-election By Omar Bah<\/b><\/p>\n

The National Assembly Member for Serekunda West, Madi Ceesay, yesterday confirmed that he will now seek re-election, five days after telling The Standard he was not going to contest.<\/p>\n

Last week, Ceesay told The Standard that the UDP Serekunda West constituency committee under the leadership of Ambaraka Jobe assisted by Bajen Camara told him he would not win the 9th April parliamentary election because his rapport with his constituents was not good.<\/p>\n

But when contacted for developments on the matter last evening, Ceesay explained: \u201cThe UDP executive called us and we resolved our differences and now I can confirm to you that I will be contesting as the UDP candidate for Serekunda West. Like I said last time, I wasn\u2019t satisfied with the claim made by the committee because I considered it a conspiracy against me and as a result, I decided to take a back seat. However, the party executive has since called both of us and we have resolved the matter. So, I accepted to contest the election under the UDP,\u201d Ceesay said.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI want to assure them that when I am re-elected, I will continue representing my people in parliament, making laws, raising their concerns and doing my oversight function to make sure that funds that are entrusted to the executive are spent transparently in the best interest of the people.\u201d He said it is not the responsibility of parliamentarians to build schools, roads or public amenities. Ceesay is the editor of Daily News newspaper.<\/p>\n
