Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>As part of their ambition to develop football stakeholders in their region, the Banjul Regional Football Association (BRFA) held a three-day refereeing course for fifteen (15) participants at the Maccarthy Square.<\/p>\n

The training which started on Monday 21 February 2022, is aimed to introduce basic football officiating to the participants as well as help develop their basic skill sets.<\/p>\n

The training course which ended yesterday, Wednesday, was administered by Mr. John Mendy, president of the Gambia Referee Association; and Mr. Sidi Manneh Referees Manager who both are CAF\/FIFA referee instructors and assessors.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can see the next Modou Sowe or Papa Bakary Gassama from the new batch of referees surfacing in The Gambia including this group. I indulge support from the general public to their officials as they all come from our homes,\u201d said John Mendy, president of the Gambia Referee Association<\/p>\n

Mustapha Jallow, a participant who started refereeing in 2018 after quitting football said he is tasked to develop himself up to the ranks of a FIFA referee.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tasked myself to grow in the ranks to third, second and first division referee and subsequently a FIFA accredited referee in five years. I am determined to always raise the flag of Banjul high,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in other developments the 3rd Division regional league preliminaries in Banjul will kick-start on Friday 25th February and it involves 10 teams where 4 will qualify to championship proper.<\/p>\n
