With pomp and glitz, the People\u2019s Republic of China celebrated the 70th Anniversary of its founding on Saturday at Coral Beach Resort.<\/p>\n
The Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia, H. E. Ma Jianchun, in his keynote address expressed delight at hosting guests comprising top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and friends of China to the august event.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s celebration marks the 3rd anniversary of the resumption of China-Gambia diplomatic relations.<\/p>\n
He noted that over the past four decades China\u2019s GDP has increased by more than 450 times, from 30 billion dollars to more than 13.6 trillion dollars in 2018.<\/p>\n
The People\u2019s Republic of China was founded 70 years ago, after over a century-long arduous struggle by the Chinese people and started the historical journey of reform and opening-up to the world 41 years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina is now the world\u2019s second largest economy, largest industrial country, largest trader in goods, largest foreign exchange reserves and has the biggest destination of foreign investment for two years,\u201d the Ambassador added.<\/p>\n
He noted that within the framework of FOCAC and South-South cooperation, China-Gambia cooperation has yielded a lot in a very short period.<\/p>\n
\u201cHundreds of Gambian students are studying in Chinese universities and this year alone, more than 400 Gambians will go to China for various short-term training or capacity building projects and 40 Gambian students are awarded Chinese government scholarships,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Jianchun further disclosed that China is committed to strengthening cooperation with The Gambia in trade, investment, infrastructure, agriculture, health, education and human resources development.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
