Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is one of three candidates for the Mali national team coaching job.<\/p>\n

The other two candidates for the job are German Winfried Schafer and former Mali international Eric Chelle.<\/p>\n

Following the Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Malian football federation (FEMAFOOT) fired head coach Mohamed Magassouba on April 1.<\/p>\n

Afrik Foot reports that 57 candidates have submitted their credentials.<\/p>\n

Rohr, 68, is a strong candidate with immense club and international experience.<\/p>\n

He is best known for leading Nigeria’s Super Eagles to qualification for the 2018 World Cup and a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

Rohr has also managed Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso.<\/p>\n

In the coming days, FEMAFOOT will conduct final interviews before announcing their choice about a month before the start of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Mali are in Group G of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which also includes Congo, Gambia, and South Sudan.<\/p>\n
